HARYANA: FREE TREATMENT FOR HEPATITIS-C Haryana has become the first state in the country to treat Hepatitis-C patients through oral medicine to be provided free of cost to all patients. In the open market this medicine and treatment costs about Rs 28, 000 to Rs 30, 000. Hepatitis-C is an infection of liver caused by Hepatitis-C virus. Accepting the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, the government has now raised the housing loan amount for central government employees to Rs 25 lakh from earlier Rs 7.50 lakh. The move will benefit about 50 lakh central government employees across the country. VARANASI IS MOST POLLUTED A report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on the air pollution level in 42 cities, Varanasi is most polluted with Air Quality Index (AQI) at an alarming 491, followed by Gurugram at 480, Delhi at 468. Pollution level is categorized as ‘severe’ when the AQI ranges between 401 and 500. INDIA 6TH IN FACING NATURAL CALAMITIES According to Global Climate Risk Index released by the Germanwatch, a Berlin-based development and environmental organization, India is the sixth most vulnerable country in the world in terms of facing extreme weather events. The country most affected is Haiti, followed by Zimbabwe and Fiji.The extreme weather events refer to natural calamities like storms, floods, heat/cold waves etc. INDIA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT INDEX The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development released the India Youth Development Index and Report 2017. It is based on Global Youth Development Index with an additional factor of ‘social inclusion’. The index aims to track the trends in development of youth across the States. The Northeast is all set to get India's first-ever air dispensary in a helicopter. The Union Ministry of Development of Northeast is in touch with the representatives of the aviation sector and helicopter service Pawan Hans for this project.

39) INDIA JOINS ‘WASSENAAR ARRANGEMENT’ In a significant development, elite export control regime Wassenaar Arrangement (WA) decided to admit India as its 42nd member thereby raising India’s stature in the field of non-proliferation of nuclear arms and helping it acquire critical technologies. The Wassenaar Arrangement aims to strengthen regional and international security and stability, by promoting transparency and greater responsibility in transfers of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies. It causes inflamed granulation on the inner surface of the eyelids. The feat was achieved by steps such as usage of antibiotic eye drops, better personal hygiene, availability of safe water, improved environmental sanitation and availability of surgical facilities for chronic Trachoma. 43) UN RECOGNITION FOR ‘KUMBH MELA’ The UNESCO has inscribed Kumbh Mela on its Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With the inclusion, Kumbh (holy pitcher) Mela now joins the list of prestigious few selected international events. This inscription is the third in two years following the inscriptions of Yoga and Nouroz (Persian New Year) in December, 2016. Kumbh Mela is considered as the world's largest congregation of religious pilgrims, which is held in Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik at 12 or 6 yearly intervals. 44) PORTAL LAUNCHED FOR GOVT PROCUREMENT An online portal ‘MSME Sambandh’ was launched to monitor the implementation of the public procurement from MSEs by Central public sector enterprises. The procurement policy mandates the Central government departments/CPSEs to procure an overall 20 per cent of their total annual purchases from MSEs (Micro and small enterprises). 45) DECEMBER 09: INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY Observed every year to focus on measures to fight corruption in public life.
