The day is observed to highlight the increasing impact television on decision-making capabilities of people and also to bring world attention to conflicts and threats to peace and in sharpening the focus on economic and social issues. UNO has acknowledged Television as a major tool in influencing public opinion and world politics.

158) INDIA READY TO JOIN EBRD
Union Cabinet approved India's membership for European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD). It would enhance India's international profile and promote its economic interests and improve investment climate in the country.
EBRD is a multi nation bank, almost like World Bank, with headquarters in London. Its core operations pertain to private sector development in countries of operation.
BRAHMOS LAUNCHED FROM SUKHOI
In a first, India successfully test-fired the air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from an IAF Su-30MKI Sukhoi aircraft. BrahMos, which is multi-platform, multi-mission missile, is now capable of being launched from land, sea and air and completes the tactical cruise missile triad.
CABINET APPROVES 15TH FINANCE COMMISSION
The Union Cabinet approved the setting up of the 15th Finance Commission which will assess the tax resources of the nation and suggest a formula for their devolution among states. The Commission will submit its recommendations before April 1, 2020 to cover five years from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2025.
As per Article 280 of the Constitution, the Commission is required to make recommendations on the distribution of the net proceeds of taxes between the Centre and the States.
INDIA NEXT TO CHINA IN FISHING
India has become the second largest fish producing country (China being first) world, accounting for about 11.41 million tonnes of fish catch in 2016-17. As a result of the scheme 'Blue Revolution', overall fish production has registered an increase of about 18.86% in comparison to the last three years, while inland fish production has registered a growth of more than 26%.
